Apple is reportedly preparing one of its biggest Siri and iOS AI upgrades yet, with iOS 27 expected to introduce a standalone Siri app, a Dynamic Island-based “Search or Ask” interface, and AI-driven Camera and Photos tools.

TL;DR

  • Apple’s iOS 27 may bring a redesigned Siri app, system-wide “Search or Ask,” deeper personal-context awareness, and new AI editing tools for Photos.
  • The Camera app could gain a dedicated Siri mode, while WWDC 2026, scheduled for June 8-12, is expected to reveal Apple’s next AI software push.

Apple’s long-running Siri reset may finally be getting its biggest public preview. According to Bloomberg, Apple is preparing a sweeping iOS 27 update that will reshape Siri into a more modern AI assistant. The report, supported by recreated screenshots viewed by Bloomberg and covered by MacRumors, says iOS 27 will include an all-new Siri app for iPhone, iPad, and Mac users, supporting both text and voice interactions, back-and-forth conversations, file attachments, voice mode, and message-style conversation history.

The new Siri experience is also expected to move deeper into the iPhone interface.

A new “Search or Ask” feature will reportedly be accessible by swiping down from the top center of the screen, with results appearing in a rich card that expands from the Dynamic Island. The interface is said to include frequently used apps, recent web searches, weather, shortcuts such as voice memo recording, and Apple’s new AI-powered search system.

This would put Siri closer to AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude, though Apple’s pitch is expected to remain centered on privacy, device context, and deep system integration.

Apple had previously said Apple Intelligence would make Siri more personal, including onscreen awareness, the ability to take actions in and across apps, and personal-context understanding.

However, that next-generation Siri rollout has already faced delays. Reuters reported that Apple pushed some AI improvements to Siri into 2026. Apple said at the time that it had been working on “a more personalized Siri” with more awareness of personal context and the ability to act within and across apps, but that delivery was taking longer than expected.

The iOS 27 update may also make Apple’s AI ambitions more visible inside everyday apps. Bloomberg’s report, as summarized by MacRumors, says the Camera app is set to get a dedicated Siri mode alongside existing options such as Photo and Video. This mode would reportedly let users photograph objects and have them analyzed through a third-party AI agent or Google reverse image search, expanding the current Visual Intelligence experience beyond the Camera Control button.

The Camera app may also receive an “Add Widgets” panel, letting users replace the top row of shortcuts across capture modes with more advanced controls such as depth adjustments, timers, and Night mode. That could make the native iPhone camera interface more flexible for advanced photographers.

Photos is expected to get new Apple Intelligence editing tools called “Reframe” and “Extend.” Reframe would allow users to change a photo’s perspective, while Extend would generate additional image areas, such as filling in a cropped-out part of a building. Apple is also reportedly testing natural language photo editing, though that may not arrive in the first iOS 27 release.

Apple has not officially confirmed the leaked iOS 27 features yet, but WWDC 2026 is almost here. The company has announced that WWDC26 will run from June 8 to June 12, with the keynote beginning on June 8 at 10 a.m. PDT. Apple said the event will introduce updates across its platforms, including “AI advancements and exciting new software and developer tools.”

For Apple, the stakes are high. Siri handles 1.5 billion user requests per day, Reuters reported, while Google and Amazon have pushed ahead with AI-powered assistant upgrades. Now, iOS 27 could be Apple’s chance to show that Siri is no longer playing catch-up, but ready to become a core AI layer across the iPhone.
